I’m A WINNER!…Unity Pro License

So this post is a bit late but this past weekend I went to a Unity event to learn more about the software and about the new features coming out in Unity 5.x.  I’m most excited about the Runtime GI and HDR. The new GUI system is apart of 4.6 but I’m so happy they have something to make an Interface easier. Anyway, at the event everyone there had a chance to win a free Unity Pro license.  If you haven’t guessed already from the title I won :D. I received the license about a day or so ago and am playing around with it. It’s great that I got the license because I was thinking about getting one but didn’t know how I would pay for it. This perfect for me!

What also is cool is I’m on the beta team for Unity 5.  That’s all I’m going to say on that.

It’s Unity, Unity, and more Unity for the rest of the year and probably beyond.  I’m working on a project for work so I’m probably going to know the ins and outs of the software by years end.  Here’s hoping!

Doctor WHO Premiere…In THEATERS!

Promo photo

Yesterday, I say the Doctor Who Premiere in Theaters along with Behind-the-Scenes and a short Prequel. The prequel featured the Paternoster Gang, Madame Vastra and Jenny were trying to prevent a ship from crashing into London and Strax was updating his blog.  He was explaining the regeneration (“degeneration” as he put it) of the doctor.  I was hoping to see what was going on in the TARDIS but the prequel was still good.

I missed a few things while watching the episode the first time.  There was some whispering of questions and loud laughter but for the most part it was a lot easier to watch the show in comparison to viewing it at a bar.  This episode has gotten me feeling that there are a lot of dark things a head for the Doctor and Clara.  I’m not sure how I feel about the doctor but if the next episode is an indication then I think I’m really going to love this series!

Yesterday I went to the DIESEL FILLING STATION to watch the premiere of Dr.Who.  I started watching the show when Matt Smith was Doctor.  I fall in love with the idea that all the Doctors personalities are fragments of the DOCTOR.  I am trying to watch all the episodes starting with the original.  I got past a few episodes (I’m at the Mayans) but am taking a break to get some real work done done.

The episode was pretty good.  I’m not sure how I feel about the new Doctor but as the 11th/12th Doctor said “Give him a chance” so I will do just that.

A while ago I went to Comic Con 2012.  Its the 1st Comic Con I went to but third Comic/Game Convention.  I must say it was a great experience!  I was part of press, helping my friend Martin Lindsey with his blog. The events, the cos players, and the overall feel of Comic Con is exuberating! I mean minus the large Crowd (I’m not much for crowds).  We started our quest on Friday, getting to know the lay of the land, know which artists to interview and which events to attend.  The only event I cared for was the Captains Reunion with Scott Backlus, Avery Brooks, and William Shatner. At first I thought it was paid so Martin and I went into the 501 Legion’s Presentation on creating an authentic costume.  It costs between 600-1200 dollars to have an authentic Storm Troop Costume! That’s too much money for me 😛

Light Saber Master Class!!

The Space was spares and we kept hearing screams and cheers from the other room so we left for that event.  The Captains were awesome.  As Shatner put, “We have two clowns and a scholar” (Referring to Avery as a Scholar)  I’ll have that video posted hopefully sooner than later.
The next day was the most exciting of the three! There were so many Cos Players.  Towards the bottom is a slide show of as many as I can find and below is a video of the winners!

I got to see the Bruce Campbell event.  He is a funny guy! Below is a short video of his talk.

Towards the end of the day, they had the Cos Player Contest.  I loved this! I love Cos Players! To me and I’m sure to so many others.  Their like celebrities.  Everyone wants their picture or get their picture taken with them. Below are the pictures of the winners.  I’m glad the Predator won something, that guy was awesome! He/She had his/her own handler, someone was telling them what to do, which makes sense seeing how involved that costume was.  I was happy for the overall winner(s) too! KickAss and HitGirl.  HitGirl had to be 2 or 3, she as soo cute! And she seemed really sweet.  Mom was Wonder Woman though I’m sure she is proud of her duo.

Sunday was mild but not by much.  Stan Lee was giving a talk.  I would have paid for the meet and greet if I had the money.  I saw him on Friday but just stared at him.  I thought it was either an impersonator or actually Stan Lee, it wasn’t until he turned the corner and was gone till I realized he was Stan Lee.  I’m glad I saw this though I did get the tail-end of it, it was still worth going to and seeing.  Below is a little bit about what he said at the event.

Here are some pictures I snapped when I was walking on the floor.

Some of the cast from Buffy was around.  The guy who played Spike and some other actors and crew.

This Con was fun! I’ll be uploading more videos and pictures from my partner as they become available. There were some things I missed but hopefully I can see them next year or at some other Con.  Until next time!

WII U Review

Wii U Preview badge

I spent some of my Sunday previewing the new Wii U console.  The event was offered to a select few and was promoted through my school, CDM at DePaul University. They are still working on game titles and features.  It was more like a Beta test.  It should be coming out around Christmas.  I must This console is a lot of fun!  The new console is slicker then the Wii with a new “controller” called the GamePad.  Besides being a controller it also allows the gamer to play their games while someone else can watch TV.  It has all the functionality of a Wii Remote but with the added bonus of an LCD screen.  It reminded me of a Game Gear but bigger in screen size and actual size.  Its thinner then a Game Gear but if memory serves me well (which it might) its not much thinner.

The place looked like a modern discothèque with the main room having stations of new games like NintendoLand, Wario and Games (Working Title), Rayman: Legends, Super Mario, and others.  There five rooms that each had a game all new soon-to-be released games except for BATMAN: ARKHAM CITY.  If you don’t know, I love Batman, when I saw the logo next to the door of each room, I walked straight in and started playing it.  Mind you, I’m not good at games but that doesn’t stop me from playing them. This game really uses the GamePad to its full capabilities.  There is a built-in sensor so when Batman is using his X-ray vision.  you can look to see what he sees.  Also, when you throw objects, you can look at the GamePad to get the perspective of lets say the Batarang. It’s very cool but the wire connected to the Wii U could cause problems like people getting to enthusiastic and getting wrapped up in the cord.  There weren’t mean games that used the GamePad for its uniqueness but there were still a lot of fun games.  Another game I look forward to is NintendoLand. It’s like Mario Party but better.  There are several mini-games like Zelda’s Battle Quest.  Those who use the Wii Remote wields a sword and whomever uses the GamePad uses a bow and arrow.  I didn’t play with the GamePad for this game because it looked tricky and I wasn’t ready for tricky.  Regardless, that game was fun and with the other games they offer I know its something I would play first when/if I get the system.

I did play other games like the Super Mario but I honestly didn’t think it was any different from the game on the Wii.  It does involve the GamePad but only as an assistant to the other players in the game.  It seemed like a pointless add on to the game.

Overall, I like this system.  I hope they get more games that utilizes the GamePad for a gamer/main character and not an assistant/side character.  It’s a fun “controller” it can be great for families and gamers a like though more for Families then hard-core gamers.  We’ll just have to wait and see!

Autographed BRAVE Poster

Autographed BRAVE Poster

Autographed by Matthew Luhn and Andrew Gordon.

Today was jammed pack with Animation, and Awesomeness. The day started off with the Pixar Master Class. The class was taught by Andrew Gordon.  The amount of knowledge he gave us was well worth the money and then some (The class from yesterday was on Story, which included story boarding, character development, and Camera).  My suggestion, take the classes! You learn soo much and free swag if they call your raffle number like me! YAY!

Also! See BRAVE! It’s absolutely BEAUTIFUL! The visuals and the animation was a treat for my eyes! It was a great day overall!
